The courier who brought the packages into the country initially faced detention. Federal authorities, however, did not find enough evidence to connect him directly to the cocaine.
As a result, they released him without filing criminal charges.
Despite his release, the consequences for the courier were swift. CBP officers canceled his visa and processed him for expedited removal. He was deported back to Guatemala the following day.
