JetBlue Brings New Jobs, New Routes, and Big Wins to Puerto Rico

JetBlue Launches San Juan Crew Base and St. Croix Flights

JetBlue Airways, Puerto Rico’s largest carrier, celebrated a groundbreaking achievement today. The airline opened a crew base outside the continental United States for the first time.

This historic move marks a bold step in strengthening JetBlue’s presence in the Caribbean. The airline officially opened its brand-new crew base at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU) in San Juan.

It is JetBlue’s first crew base outside of the continental United States. It reflects the company’s more profound commitment to Puerto Rico and its surrounding Caribbean region.

The opening also marks the launch of a highly anticipated new flight route: JetBlue’s new route between San Juan and St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This move reinforces JetBlue’s steady investment in Caribbean regional growth.

The new crew base in Terminal A at SJU will transform JetBlue’s operations. It will create over 400 jobs in Puerto Rico, including pilots and flight attendants.

These include more than 100 pilot positions and over 300 flight attendant roles. The inflight crewmember base opened today, with San Juan-based pilots expected to start in early 2025.

The base allows crewmembers to start and end their shifts in San Juan. This change improves efficiency and boosts support for operations during flight disruptions.

Additionally, it brings a unique opportunity for Puerto Rican crewmembers to work closer to home.

“The new crew base reinforces our commitment to investing in the communities we serve,” said Warren Christie, JetBlue’s chief operating officer.

“We are creating opportunities for crewmembers in San Juan and those who want to return home,” Christie added.

Puerto Rico’s Governor, Pedro R. Pierluisi, welcomed the airline’s initiative.

“JetBlue continues to bet on Puerto Rico,” he said. “Our tourism has seen record growth in the past four years. It is another sign that good news keeps coming for our people.”

JetBlue’s new crew base complements its Tech Ops maintenance base, which opened in 2020. Together, these developments showcase the airline’s dedication to Puerto Rico’s economy, workforce, and infrastructure.

JetBlue also celebrated the inaugural flight from San Juan to St. Croix today. St. Croix, the largest of the U.S. Virgin Islands, is famous for its cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Visitors can explore its lush gardens, charming streets, and pristine beaches. Rainbow Beach and Protestant Cay are perfect spots for relaxation.

This new route boosts JetBlue’s already strong presence in the Caribbean. It opens up opportunities for leisure travelers and those visiting friends and relatives.

Christie shared his excitement: “Our new route demonstrates our commitment to serving the Caribbean. We look forward to connecting St. Croix residents with our network beyond San Juan.”

JetBlue uses its Airbus A320 aircraft for the route. Passengers can enjoy award-winning amenities, including free Fly-Fi® internet, complimentary snacks and drinks, and seatback entertainment at every seat.

To mark the launch, JetBlue is offering special $29 one-way fares. This limited-time deal is available only on jetblue.com.

JetBlue’s growth in Puerto Rico highlights its leadership in Caribbean travel. The airline now serves 18 destinations from Puerto Rico alone.

JetBlue operates over 50 daily departures from Puerto Rico during peak travel seasons. Flights connect San Juan, Aguadilla, and Ponce to cities like New York, Boston, and Fort Lauderdale.

JetBlue also flies to Mexico, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. By 2025, its Puerto Rican workforce will exceed 800 employees.

The new crew base for Puerto Rico brings job creation, economic growth, and operational strength.

JetBlue continues to connect communities while enhancing customer experiences. Its network growth ensures residents and travelers can rely on affordable, reliable flights.

As the Caribbean grows as a popular destination, JetBlue remains a key player in the region’s future.
